2021.09.16 22:48 barndogusn Help with large computer rollouts, imaging and software deployement

I have been given the freedom to critique(and fix) some processes for a company. One of the first things they needed was someone to fill in for a sick employee who regularly configures large numbers of laptops for what are essentially remote workers for call center overflow. This person is non-technical with an accounting background, and they basically have a 12-page guide for him to take a clean Windows 10 computer and create a local admin account, join to Azure AD, enable bitlocker, install O365 and several pieces of software that require minimal input. One software requires a portion of the computer name to be input during the installation, another requires a product key basically. Management seems to want to over-complicate the process by using some kind of cloud deployment tool. My previous employer used ConnectWise Automate for everything, but the process of getting RMM on a computer and essentially waiting a couple hours for the scripting to complete seems dumb to me, not to mention the cost associated with CW licensing. These people use SolarWinds for asset management and some form of RMM/remote access, but I'm not sure how well they have it setup or what capabilities it really has as I'm new to SW and have read-only access. I'm trying to come up with the simplest option to essentially make a non-technical user's life a lot easier, and cut down the amount of time it takes to setup each computer. I should note that they usually set these up over a wireless connection but the computers generally will have a NIC, and they've informed me that once they have 10-20 computers up and running it becomes difficult to do even basic tasks like Azure AD joining due to wireless saturation. I plan to get a lab setup so that they can all be hard-wired for the setup process, as there's a 500/500 fiber connection in the building. I don't have a ton of experience with this kind of thing, but they regularly have projects that may require several hundred laptops to be setup on short notice. In my mind this is two-fold, a better way to deploy a base image that already has the local admin account and possibly some of the software, and then some kind of scripted process for installing the additional software that requires some input(from a flash drive or cloud solution). The computers are regularly sent back when a contract ends, and then re-used, but as it stands now when a computer is sent back they have to reinstall a clean copy of Windows 10 for the next project. I feel like having some kind of "golden image" would solve that issue, as we could just re-deploy the image and skip the whole process of reinstalling Windows 10. I don't know how that would work with the way Windows 10 is licensed, my understanding is that the image would have to be "generalized" and may require some kind of Volume License instead of using the embedded product key. However, I'd like to hear some input from other professionals who have more experience. As the old timers would say, it's not my bailiwick. My brother in law is a top notch programmer, but I'm trying to come up with a plan before telling someone what I need help with. Believe it or not I already shaved about 15 minutes and lots of wireless bandwidth on the process of installing O365... they were having the technician sign into their own 365 account to do the install. I was like, "um, why aren't we using an offline installer?" Anyways, I created the offline installer and put it on all the setup flash drives, needless to say these people seem easy to impress. The job is great, they are good people. I just want to make life easier for everyone involved. I will probably get a call on a Friday saying, "We just got 250 computers, they need to be ready for shipping by Monday". I want to be able to accomplish that task with my team, but I'm trying to prevent this process from becoming any more complicated than it already is and without costing the company too much money. Any help is appreciated!

2021.09.16 22:48 johnny-T1 Trajectory of EUR/PLN

Do you think it'll go up even further? As much as I understand the central bank thinks inflation is temporary so no rate hikes this year. Euro is getting stronger so zloty will fall even further right? I got some Euros, planning to buy a laptop, maybe I can get something nicer after a month or two?

2021.09.16 22:48 unraveki Is it continuous?

Number 77: the Deadly Sins states; "If this face-up card on the field would be destroyed by battle or card effect, you can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card instead. My friends are saying it's activing its effect, because I'm choosing to detach a material. I'm saying that it's effect is continuous because it has no colon, and only commas. Also that it's effect is replacing it's destruction, and not activated. Who is right?

2021.09.16 22:48 classicsarerelevant Oh, so the UK left Europe?

Oh, so we just left Europe right? We just left that whole continent behind, according to you, didn't we? We just grabbed our paddles, pushed off of Calais, and started paddling towards Iceland right? Boris organised a mass paddling session towards a volcano with people on it to cut down on the fatties in Britain, didn't he? Right? According to you? He just got down on his knees, planted all three legs in the sand, and started flailing his oar in the ocean, right? The UK just decided to invent teleportation and become part of China right? If you can't beat them join them, that's what you're basically saying aren't you? You're basically saying for us to become part of Asia, which means we'd be part of Afghanistan, right? Which means you support ISIS, since that's what you're saying right? So that means you're a terrorist right? So you're brown? So you're basically part of India, right?

2021.09.16 22:48 emmnull A better way to raffle?

Hey there! Coming over from the Rocket Pool community it is always thrilling to see these big raffles in progress. Whilst it is exciting watching one poap after the other getting eliminated, a question of unfair distribution came to my mind.
The UI of an ongoing raffle shows the Max Gas per block and when auditing the elimination of poaps it is the last digit of this number which determines which poaps get knocked out.
While it probably once was a reliable source of random numbers the recent development in Block size has led me to believe this is a really bad way to do things. Zeros get knocked out immediately and fives most often right after. Nines are also dispropotionately more likely to appear.
The FAQ says the Gas used would be used to determined which Block gets knocked out and I think this would be much better. It also probably is a really minor change in code (I don't know, i'm not a programmer).
Anyways. What are your thoughts on this? Do the devs read this sub?

2021.09.16 22:48 TombStoneFaro What Whales Hope For

I have mentioned that their dogged friendliness despite our attacks on them might stem from hope that we will firstly stop killing them, secondly stop polluting and thirdly help them medically, like with parasites.
But more broadly speaking, they know we are the only creatures with technology -- perhaps if they are vastly intelligent they will want to know of the discoveries we have made with our telescopes and space craft and with our microscopes and particle accelerators.
Not to get too new agey but if telepathy exists, perhaps creatures with minds many times more powerful than ours actually have developed the ability, like in one of the Star Trek flicks, to communicate with extraterrestrials and if so, they may want us to help them communicate further.
